Area under Kharif cultivation expected to rice by 10% over the last year.
UP - Target for Kharif sowing has gone up by 15%. Karnataka's southern part has received rains.
PADDY- Farmers in A.P. & Tamil Nadu have started raising seedlings in nursery's. In Punjab & Haryana paddy seedling transplantation began around June 10 based on canal irrigation and drawing ground water. In U.P. the monsoon is expected to arrive by June 20 "We expect a normal rainfall in the state with yield per acre to increase, said a govt official in the state's agriculture department.
PULSES- Last years' high prices have led to an overall increase in the acreage with every state reporting a rise. Tamil Nadu has reported a 100% rise with the area under pulses cultivation from 6 lakh hectares to 12 lakh hectares. Farmers have shifted completely from jowar to green gram in the north coastal district of Andhra attributing this to the increase in MSP. Tamil Nadu's joint Director, Agriculture, T Gopalakrishnan said "till last week, pulses have been sown in 0.365 lakh hectare compared to 0.208 lakh hectare at the same time around last year in june.
COARSE GRAINS- Bajra & Maize sowing has begun across Punjab, Haryana & Rajesthan. Good monsoon will facilitate the output the acreage as well as the output.
SUGARCANE- (U.P. & Maharashtra) Early estimates of Maharashtra pegging the cane production at 850 lakh tonnes. Haryana Agriculture department, additional Director, BS Duggal, noted " We expect the area under sugarcane to increase by 28000 hectare, to touch 90000 hectare this year.
OILSEED- (A.P.) Brisk sowing of groundnut. Good rainfall shall start the sowing of cotton and maize. (Gujarat) major groundnut producer expects the acreage to go down by 18 lakh ha, Soyabean acreage to decline from 79100 to 60000 ha due to the low prices it fetched the farmers the previous year.
COTTON- (Rajesthan) Cotton production had fallen down to 60% due to scanty rainfall last year. But pre monsoon showers have sparked accelaration in sowing.
GUAR- (Rajesthan)Better Guar Seed Production Expected in comparison to the last year.
